Recording Studio Time.
Vocalist, I ain't. But I can use my voice as a vulgar form of "musical" instrument. It's an untrained voice, even untrained ears can tell. Instantly.
I've seen dogs play the keyboard better. Or was it a chicken. I'm a grade zero. If anything melodious come out of it, it 50% pure chance. Although I've learnt to use the F key more sparingly.
Play only the black keys and you'll get an imitation of an oriental tune, they said. Traditional Chinese instruments are based on 5 notes; C#, D#, F#, G#, A#. Skip the natural notes.
It takes good coordination, hands and legs. It sets the tempo for the rest of the band to follow. Someone else better do this.
Adult version of a child's busy board. Lots to fiddle with. Actually you don't need to touch most of them, as much as they are tempting. The multi-track console is more decorative than functional. A little redundant in this setup. Maybe it'll find a better fit in a live concert AV control centre, where you've got more mic sources to deal with.
This is a power amp. And mixer. More knobs to fiddle with. Dampness, echo, reverb, treble and bass, left and right balance; basic stuff like that.
There's a lot more going on in here. But actually, most of the job is done on the computer these days, with everything else built around it.
It's $80 per hour. So before stepping into a professional sound recording studio, make sure you're well rehearsed. You need about an hour to a song, give or take 30mins of post recording tweaking. For practices and casual gigs, do it in your garage, bedroom or bathroom. It's free.
