Sometimes we sinkies overreach and try to roll out sophisticated systems that we cannot maintain, either because we are not educated enough or our culture has not reached that stage. Smart Nation is a good idea, but for a nation that cannot let go of 377a because of the fear of divine retribution, maybe Smart Nation is not achievable - or even desirable!
The SingHealth hack is a good example of our culture not reaching the requisite stage. So many rationalizations. They would be acceptable if hospitals were still keeping patient records on paper ONLY. Once you open your systems to the Internet, with email and social media and such, you need a different approach and philosophy. But that's just me. As the Hokkien saying goes: if your head not so big, don't wear a big hat!
